Removing the disk partition will take away easy access to the drive, but it's not really destroyed.
The danger in just removing partitions is that any semi-tech-savvy individual could easily recover the entire contents of the drive, with very basic data recovery software.
If you want to avoid your time-consuming disk cleaning, you could wack the exposed circuit board with a hammer a couple times (the method I use).
At least with that kind of damage, any would-be 'dumpster diver' would need substantial technical skills (and probably a class 100 cleanroom, or around $2000 cash for a professional recovery from a facility, such as Knoll-Ontrack or DriveSavers) to recover the data.
HOWEVER, if you are responsible for "data security" in your line of work, and your work is sensitive or interesting enough for outside entities to take an 'active interest' in the contents of your trashed drives, then you should probably be physically opening the drives, and smashing the platters..takes about 5 mins per drive. Data recovery from this type of destruction requires an electron microscope, which is exactly what it would take to recover data from a high-end software-based 'drive cleaning'/data shredder' app.
If you are not a expert in computer, you can use a disk management software to help you slove all your questions: http://www.disk-partition.com/partition-software.html. Aomei Partition Assistant have different edtition for different users, including Home, Pro, Server, Technique.

How to Make a Mirror Image in Other Disk Partition
1. You would need to connect another Hdd and then Mirror it to this you can not mirror to the same drive, has to be same size or larger, cause if it fails you have nothing, a minimum for a server would be 1 drive mirrored.
2. Also you could install a second os in case of any issue of a software fault. You would need to configure it as if it was running so if there is a fault you reboot and keep going.
3. Look up about RAID configuration can be done with 3 drives hardware or software.I would possibly go with 3 drives and a raid controller giving a hardware solution, you can then portion a small amount for second os.
Otherwise, you can do disk mirror by automatic disk management tool. Aomei Partition Assistant is a good choice:

The Benefits of Disk Partitions
There are many advantages to do disk partitions:
1. Separation of the operating system (OS) and program files from user files. This allows image backups (or clones) to be made of only the operating system and installed software.
2. Having cache and log files separate from other files. These can change size dynamically and rapidly, potentially making a file system full.
3. Use of multi-boot setups, which allow users to have more than one operating system on a single computer. For example, one could install Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows or others on different partitions of the same hard disk and have a choice of booting into any compatible operating system at power-up.
4. Raising overall computer performance on systems where smaller file systems are more efficient. For instance, large hard drives with only one NTFS file system typically have a very large sequentially accessed Master File Table (MFT) and it generally takes more time to read this MFT than the smaller MFTs of smaller partitions.
Actually, more benefits can acquire from disk partition. Aomei Partition Assistant software is a powerful disk management software:
You can do:
1. Resize/Move Partition
2. Merge Partitions
3. Split Partition
4. Allocate Free Space
5. Create/Delete/Format Partition
6. Copy Disk/Partition
7. Wipe Disk/Partition

How to Change My a Partition's Size Before Running Windows
Windows 7 and Vista include a built-in functionality in Disk Management to shrink and expand partitions. No more 3rd party utilities needed!
To get to this utility, open up Control Panel, and type in partition into the search box. you’ll immediately see the link show up. In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select “Shrink Volume” from the menu.In the Shrink dialog, you will want to enter the amount you want to shrink by, not the new size. For example, if you want to shrink your 50gb partition by roughly 10gb so that it will now be roughly 40gb, enter 10000 into the box. In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select “Extend Volume” from the menu. On this screen, you can specify the amount that you want to increase the partition by. In this case, I’m going to extend it back to the roughly 50GB size that it was before.
Note that the extend partition feature only works with contiguous space.
However, you only can do some simple changes to your windows disk, if you want to do some advanced changes such clone disk, and etc, you still need to have a special disk management software such as Aomei Partition Assistant Software, which have different edition for users.
